2011 DIRECTORS ELECTION

This year at the July general meeting members will elect seven directors. Those running for these are five existing directors:

Mike Brown, Art Ekern, Shirley Arentz, Dale Clements and Randy Wigdal.

Two new faces and one familiar face are also running:

Tim Larsen - Dublin Square, Mike Konzen - Heroes & Jim Pickett - Alpine Inn.

A very special thanks to Greg Foss and John “Nub” Gjertsen who are stepping down. Both contributed immensely, serving very well as treasurer and vice-president.

Randy Wigdal, Grizzly’s Bar and Grill

Randy has 25 yrs. experience in the food & beverage industry. A La Crosse Aquinas grad, he started working at the Grizzly’s location way back when it was the old Bonanza buffet. He attended WWTC for police science. In 1997, the Bonanza franchise was dropped & it changed to the bar & grill theme with Randy being the managing partner. He has a passion for his work & Tavern League believing very much in its importance to the industry. As he says even after all the years, he “still loves coming to work.” He has gained director experience filling in for Jim Neumeister who was unable to serve due to medical problems. He wants to continue his service for all of the fine Tavern League members in the La Crosse area. He & his wife Kristi have one son, Dane.

Mike Konzen, Heroes Sports Bar and Grill

Even though he just started as the manager of Heroes which is a part of the Days Inn on French Island, he has several years of experience in food and beverage. After graduating from Aquinas High School in 1976 he worked at the family bar in Holmen, Our Place, which eventually became Rich’s Sunrise. He went on to bartend and/or manage at the Moose Lodge, a place he is currently very active at; The River City Palace, now The Helm and Moxies, now River Jack’s. His volunteer work at the Moose Lodge demonstrates his willingness to get involved and serve others. He & his dad are a father & son team with his dad being a senior governor and Mike a junior governor. He comes from a family of ten being the only son. He & his wife have two daughters.

Tim Larsen, Dublin Square

After graduating from La Crosse Central in 1996, Tim studied tourism and hospitality at Stout before transferring to UW-Madison. While there he had the opportunity to study in Scotland which gave him & friends the chance to take weekend trips to nearby Ireland. Little did he realize at the time he would someday run an Irish Pub in La Crosse. He’s the managing partner at the new Dublin Square on 3rd and Main in La Crosse. After returning from school he went to work for Joe Bloedorn at the old Arterial. He also bartended at Fox Hollow, an experience he really liked because he learned alot from his boss, Dale Clements, and he got to do alot of golfing. In fact, Tim gives Joe and Dale all the credit for what he has learned about the business. He is a partner at Dublin Square with Matt Birinham and Matt Boshcka. He wants to become involved in the Tavern League so he can stay current on industry issues & convey to the public and members all of the good things it does for both.

Jim Pickett, Alpine Inn

Few if any members have more knowledge and experience with the Tavern League than “Pick”. He is a past director and secretary of our league serving for many years. On the 3rd District level he has been a director for several years. Now he is a state southern zone vice president, a position invaluable for us because we are lucky enough to receive information directly on what is happening on the state level. Jim is a proven Tavern League leader with connections that would be hard to match by very few in Wisconsin. Thank you Jim for all your service and your willingness to step up again for the LCTL.
